  5.     To the ever expanding lexicon of corporate jargon you may
  6. now add "risk-sharing partnership." That's how Boeing chairman
  7. Frank Shrontz describes arrangements like the one between his
  8. company and Germany's Deutsche Airbus/Deutsche Aerospace, which
  9. announced plans for a joint research effort last week. The risk
  10. the two giant jetmakers may share: development of a supersonic
  11. high-speed civil transport, an updated and larger Concorde-type
  12. airliner that could whisk 300 passengers at twice the speed of
  13. sound.

  15.     Boeing has also signed a memorandum of understanding with
  16. France's Thomson CSF stating that the two companies will work
  17. together on aerospace products. Such alliances with potential
  18. competitors are a reaction to the giant cost of the next
  19. generation of airliners and the giant marketplace of post-1992
  20. Europe. Other companies seem likely to heed the new lesson: If
  21. you can't beat 'em, join 'em -- and share the risk.
